Are you Sabotaging Your Own Success?

Are You Sabotaging Your Own Success?

As entrepreneurs, we talk about mindset a lot. But it can feel like an allusive topic - something we talk about, but very few of us actually comprehend. Why? Because it’s intangible. It’s difficult to measure. And the mindset journey looks different for everyone.

Here is the thing though: your mindset is a huge part of your entrepreneurial journey. Ignoring its importance could cause you to stunt your business growth and sabotage your business success.

As Christian business women, we are called to “destroy arguments and every lofty opinion raised against the knowledge of God, and take every thought captive to obey Christ”. [2 Corinthians 10:5] Did you catch that? We are called to submit our thoughts to the authority of Christ!

Are you struggling to reign in your thoughts and submit them to Christ’s authority? Is your thought life keeping you from living out your God-given business calling?

Below are 5 practical ways in which you can start taking control of your mind today:

1. Let’s start with a clean slate, shall we?!

Negativity creeps into our lives in the sneakiest of ways! Unless we’re intentional about keeping the negative out, it’s bound to find its way into our lives… in our inboxes, on our social media feeds and beyond.

Today, we’re going to make a change. Together. And it really is a simple change. All it takes is a bit of intentionality.

CHALLENGE: Spend some time cleaning up your inbox and social media feeds.

Use https://unroll.me/ to identify all the email lists you’re subscribed to -- and unsubscribe, with just a few clicks of the mouse! (Genius!)

Look through all the people, businesses and brands you’re following on social media -- and ask yourself: how do I feel when I see their posts? If the answer isn’t “FANTASTIC”, unfollow them! Be especially aware of accounts that make you fall into the trap of comparison and those that attempt to steal glory from our heavenly Father.

“Do not love the world or anything in the world. If anyone loves the world, love for the Father is not in them.” [1 John 2:15]

2. What better way to get in a good state of mind than a positive influence?!

Community is important. Super important. That is why today is all about connecting with someone who speaks truth into your life.

CHALLENGE: Schedule a “date” with someone who you admire for their healthy mindset and ability to speak truth into your life. If you can get together in person -- do it! If not, we encourage you to utilize technology (Facetime, Skype, etc), so you can still have that face to face time over coffee (or tea). Ask them about their secret to having a positive mindset.

Bonus: Ask your friend what they love most about you and share it with us in the comments! There are so many wonderful traits about each of us -- it’s time to be proud of them!

“Therefore encourage one another and build one another up, just as you are doing.” [1 Thessalonians 5:11]

If you’re struggling to identify someone in your life, we encourage you to ask God to bring someone new into your life. Then actively begin seeking out new friendship (join the RE Facebook Group). Building friendships requires investment; however, an investment in this area of your life has the ability to yield both life and business benefits beyond your wildest dreams.

3. Let’s shed light on those lies that keep trying to drag us down!

The enemy loves to use lies to hold us down, but God uses His light to build us up.

Let’s expose lies to God’s light. What lies has the enemy been feeding you?

  • I’m too young/too old to be taken seriously in business.
  • There’s no room for my business. The industry is too crowded.
  • My competition is better than me - why should I bother?

Friend, those are all lies!

CHALLENGE: Think about one lie that is holding you back today. Write down why it’s essential that you let go of that lie and what impact you’ll see in your business as a result of letting go.

Now let’s expose that lie to God’s light. Seek Him for scriptures that you can stand on to combat the enemy’s lies. Write that scripture on a sticky note and keep it in a spot you’ll see every day.

In the name of Jesus, let’s break some strongholds!

“The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life and have it abundantly.” John 10:10

4. But God is faithful. He is unceasingly working in you and through you.

If you were to look back on your life, you’d see time and time again that God has come through on your behalf - wouldn’t you?

Evidence of God’s faithfulness is written all over each of our lives. And yet, we still worry, stress and doubt. We let fear rule over our calling, giving the enemy permission to steal our joy. (It’s seriously rough being human sometimes…)

CHALLENGE: Recall a time that you acted despite feelings of insecurity, worry or fear. Write down all the resulting positive outcomes.

Start keeping record of your prayers, then go back as they are answered marking them as such. Documented reminders of God’s faithfulness come in handy in times of fear, worry and doubt!

“No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it.” [1 Corinthians 10:13]

5. Let’s take a stand for God’s truth. It’s time to take action!

Are you ready for the grand finale?

CHALLENGE: What action can you take that boldly goes against the lies you’ve been plagued with? Do it today!

If you’ve let the lie of being too young or old consume you, tell someone your age. (I bet you’ll be surprised by how much it doesn’t matter to them!)

If you’ve been consumed by the lie that you cannot do video, record and publish a video today!

“So whoever knows the right thing to do and fails to do it, for him it is sin.” [James 4:17]

We’ve come to understand that a healthy mindset is often the result of taking steps in the right direction - the direction dictated by God’s truth. Feelings and thoughts are misleading. However, we do have the ability to identify God’s truth and walk in it. It’s then that the feelings start to follow. It’s then that we see the impact of our actions take hold - and that’s a beautiful thing!
