Dear friend who is feeling weighed down...

Dear friend who is feeling weighed down by the vision that God has placed on her heart,

God-given business dreams are big - like beyond our abilities big. And often the magnitude of the vision you have for your business is one of the confirmations that it is, in fact, from God.

God-given dreams have a tendency to come at strange times, too. Anyone with me here? When God placed the vision for Relevant Entrepreneur on my heart, I was a self proclaimed struggling entrepreneur (you know, like a struggling artist, but with business?!).

Here’s the thing about God-size business dreams: if we aren’t careful, they can easily overwhelm us! But we can’t run away from them. Because that’s disobedience. So, what the heck are we supposed to do?!

Below are a few things that I’ve learned, most of them since the summer of 2015 (when God placed the vision for THIS business on my heart):

Feelings of overwhelm are NOT from God.

We serve a God of peace, of rest, of triumph. We serve a God who has ALL the answers in the palm of His hand. The only requirement? That we seek Him for those answers and submit to His timing.

If you’re feeling overwhelmed, please know that our heavenly Father’s grace is sufficient. While there are a multitude of reasons that you may be feeling overwhelmed, there is one, ever faithful solution - Jesus.

“But he said to me, ‘My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.’ Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me. That is why, for Christ’s sake, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong.” [2 Corinthians 12:9-11 NIV]

In these times of overwhelm, resist the urge to continue working, thinking that more work is the solution to overcoming those obstacles that overwhelm you. God never intended for you to use your own strength to accomplish His vision for your life and business. What He does intend is for us to lay our burdens at His feet, rest in His arms and soak up His precious peace.

God does not expect you to do this alone.

Yes, run to God in your times of need, but you also have the unique opportunity, as a child of God, to put up safeguards before the burden becomes so large. You see, your heavenly Father desires to be at the center of all you’re doing. The Holy Spirit residing in each of us is proof of this.

Trust me, I understand that it’s easy to type: “put up safeguards before the burden becomes so large” and it is exponentially harder to implement this discipline. However, I can promise you that developing the discipline to seek and trust God in all things will be worth every second you put into it. If you want God’s hand working in your business, He needs to be at the center. He needs to be your CEO. Like an employee would take the time to listen, learn from and build relationship with their boss, so should we with our CEO and Lord.

“The Lord himself goes before you and will be with you; He will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged.” [Deuteronomy 31:8 NIV]
“Seek His will in all you do, and He will show you which path to take.” [Proverbs 3:6 NLT]

Fellowship is about more than just personal connection, it is also about spiritual protection.

Just as Christ has communion with the Father and Holy Spirit, He also desires this for us. At Relevant Entrepreneur, we talk a lot about Business Besties and about how important we believe it is to build our businesses in community with other Christian women. We stress this importance because we believe that having a community that understands you, your ambitions and struggles is not only a good business practice, but it’s biblical.

I’ll admit, my initial desire for community came out of a practical need for help. (When God placed the vision of Relevant Entrepreneur on my heart, I immediately began praying for someone who could help.) But with time, God revealed that His purpose for me was to be truly known, loved and to use community to make me stronger in the face of spiritual attack.

I have found incredible strength as a result of my Business Bestie friendships. Yes, there are people in my life that support my entrepreneurial journey, but there is something so special about the connection that you have with someone who is on that same journey, too. We understand the emotional roller coaster of launching. We understand the excitement of a growing email list. We understand the devastation of an unsubscribe. It is without argument that we are stronger together.

“‘Again, truly I tell you that if two of you on earth agree about anything they ask for, it will be done for them by my Father in heaven. For where two or three gather in my name, there am I with them.’” [Matthew 18:19-20 NIV]
"Jesus knew their thoughts and said to them: 'Any kingdom divided against itself will be ruined and a house divided against itself will fall.'" [Luke 11:17 NIV]

If God has placed it on your heart to be known, don’t ignore His promptings. His vision for your future requires the support of women who are willing to continually point you toward Him and stand with you against the enemy’s desire to take you down.
