3 Ways To Find God-Centered Confidence
I’ve always had trouble with confidence. I think I’m acutely aware of how much I don’t know … and it keeps me from action more often than I’d like to admit.
The trouble with that is that it keeps me from living my purpose some days. Because here’s what I believe success looks like: faith + obedience.
But confidence is the link between those two, and if we don’t have confidence, we don’t often act. The trouble is that we’ve been coming at confidence from the wrong direction.
It turns out that to accomplish what we’re called to, we don’t need confidence in ourselves. We simply need confidence in God. That’s where it really comes from.
So I wanted to share with you three places to focus on God so you can confidently live your calling.
I can honestly say that in every hard time or failure, God has been there. I could name at least 5 times that He came through in such big ways to comfort and provide … and somehow, the next time He asks something of me, it’s like those instances never happened.
But here’s the truth: our God is SO faithful. Not just to you in your life, but to everyone and in eternity. So we can put our trust in Him.
"Your faithfulness endures to all generations; you have established the earth, and it stands fast." [Psalm 119:90]
"Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for he who promised is faithful."[Hebrews 10:23]
You see, we don’t hope in ourselves. We hope in the God who doesn’t waver and who is faithful to all generations. That’s something to be confident in!
His Ability to Work in Us
Want to know a secret? If you could do it on your own, God wouldn’t have a chance to use you. And if you look throughout Scripture, the people He most loves to use are the ordinary and imperfect ones.
Can you relate to either of those? Then rest assured God can use you too.
Truly, truly, I say to you, whoever believes in me will also do the works that I do; and greater works than these will he do, because I am going to the Father. -- John 14:12
And it only takes a stroll through Hebrews 11 to see how it actually played out throughout history. Abraham, Moses, and more … none were perfect, all messed up (a lot), and yet the did miraculous and bold things.
God can do that through you too.
God’s Gifts to Us
You have gifts. In fact, most of the time, God will ask you to work in those and add Him in for more than you can imagine.
It’s clear from Scripture that God wants people to use their gifts. Just look at Exodus 31 where we have artisans, craftsmen, and skilled workers. He’s given everyone something to do and gifts to do them.
Then in the New Testament, God unleashes a whole new kind of gift. In Romans 12 and 1 Corinthians 12, we see spiritual gifts fall upon the people. Gifts given to us and empowered by the Holy Spirit! And I’m willing to bet that those are being used in your calling as well.
He’s equipped you and He is powerful enough and faithful enough to see it through. You can confidently walk out your calling. So take that step of obedience today.
